My name is Gator, but
my foster mom calls me Gator George. She is
an Illini so therefore can not face that
nasty G name by itself. My short life has
been pretty nasty until the wonderful people
from SSMR came to my rescue. I am only two
years old, but it has been a rough two
years. SSMR thinks that I was not allowed
to really walk around my old house in fear
that I might get something dirty and I was
not really allowed to eat much or drink
much, because my old house did not want the
yellow spots on the lawn. So what has
happened is that I have very weak muscles in
my rear legs. It also does not help that my
legs are long and skinny. Hey, it’s like
walking on stilts on ice, so I have a small
tendency to fall down or do the splits. I
also at this time can only stand or lay down
because I do not have enough rear end muscle
to support me sitting. But with the help of
my friends at SSMR I am getting the help I
need. I have a great nutritional plan to
help build me up, I have acupuncture
treatments to help with both the pain and
the lack of muscle, I have natural
medications that seem to be working and I am
told that because I am doing better.
I will need to continue
on with the acupuncture, I will need to take
my medicine, I am not allowed and may never
be allowed to run and jump, even though I
want to, because I have no control over my
back and I do not want to blow out a knee.
So it is leash walks for me and no
stairs. Unfortunately, no one knows how
much muscle I will get back or if I will
need these treatments for years to come. But
I do get along well with everything, but do
get a little nervous around people when they
are in groups that I do not know when they
are around my backend. That is my danger
zone, but once I know you, a few scratches
and rubs never hurt anyone. I also do not
like it when other dogs jump on me. It
hurts and I usually fall down!! And,
because I really had no life before,
everything is of interest to me. The grass,
the bushes, the animals, the cars, the other
dogs, a fly, an armadillo, you name it, it
is new to me and I do spend my time
satisfying my curiosity. Heck, my foster
brothers had to teach me how to enjoy a
treat after we walk, and boy, are we glad
that I learned that one.
So if anyone out there
will continue with my treatments until I get
stronger and don’t need them anymore, and
will continue to give me a great nutritional
diet along with my medications, put up with
my leash walks to keep me from injuring
myself any further, then I in turn will give
you a wonderful family member that loves to
be with you.
P.S. In the pictures, I
am the one that is standing, the others are
my foster brothers who have been helping me,
but they have a home, it is just me that is
still looking.
If you have the time and
love in your heart to make Gator George a
family member for ever please fill out an
adoption application at
adoption application
mentioning him by name and state.
My foster mom said that you can contact her
with any questions, or once you fill out a
SSMR adoption application (please remember
to say you are interested in me, Gator
George), you can come over and see me. It
is still very difficult for me to get in and
out of any car, plus it scares me, so please
come here to meet me and my foster
brothers. I promise, you are just gonna
love me. Foster mom Kym can be reached
