Goliath is a beautiful fawn boy who has been through a lot. He was recently rescued from a shelter after having been seized during the arrest of his owner. Although originally the man was being charged with another crime, animal cruelty has now also been added to his list of charges. Poor Goliath was tied to a tree and utterly emaciated- weighing in at only 87 pounds. He could not have lived for much longer if he had not been taken by animal control. That was 30 days ago- he has been held at the animal control facility until now- being rescued by SSMR to try to help this boy to have a second chance at life. Goliath is thought to be only around 4 years old,He is already neutered and still quite underweight. He is slowly gaining weight and now is up to107lbs. He has a lot more weight to gain but is on the road to recovery. He is a very sweet and loving Mastiff with people but it appears that he will need to be the only dog in the household. Sometimes when dogs are chained to trees they can learn to be fearful or aggressive around other dogs and probably this was the case with Goliath too. We will have more information about him as he is further evaluated in foster care and after he has been vetted and heartworm tested. In the meantime he is recovering in a warm and loving environment and hoping to have a forever family who will love him as he deserves to be. UPDATE FROM HIS FOSTER MOM JULY 17,2009 Goliath (his foster mom calls him Marley) has come so far from the super skinny pathetic boy that was found chained and neglected. Marley has so much love to give, he love people , all shapes, sizes, genders and colors J He is not good with other dogs, yet had developed a special relationship with the medium size mix female he has been housed with. Because Marley has been fostered in a kennel situation he is stressed by the constant influx of new dogs and he would love to have people to call his very own. Marley will require a household that is committed to him remaining the only male dog in the household for his lifetime. He does not care much for small dogs either so best to look to a home with no small dogs. He is happy, healthy and has enough energy to keep up with a young family, yet will be just as happy just chilling out too. If you are interested in adopting or fostering this lovely Mastiff please submit an adoption application mentioning him specifically by name and state.
