Princess's Adoption Updates-
Formerly Suffering from starvation, Severe Abuse/neglect, now vibrant and
happy- and living a wonderful life thanks to our volunteers and donors who
cared...
FEBRUARY 2008:
Princess is coming back to SSMR for
placement as her new owner moved out of state and did not take her Mastiffs
with her. Though she is being given up to rescue again, she is now looking
absolutely beautiful and is in excellent health!

These graphic photos show how Princess looked when Lonna
Harrison rescued her from the shelter in 2005 |

Princess was found as a stray
in Hanover County Virginia. The animal control officer did not have much hope
that she would be adopted. Then SSMR rescue came along and decided that in spite
of her physical condition, that Princess deserved a real life- and a chance to
make some special family very happy.
Princess is a very sweet young
Mastiff no older than three but possibly much younger. She is obviously
underweight, and has been determined to have demodetic mange over the majority
of her body.
She is now safely in SSMR
foster care and is literally being given a second chance at life- starting with
proper veterinary care and medical treatment for her skin condition, and a warm
home to relax in where she is receiving some much needed TLC.
She is a very sweet girl
that just wants to be loved and lay her head in your lap. She is housebroken,
but has had 1 accident in the house (that is over a 2 week period).
Princess will need to be spayed prior to placement, however, she cannot be
spayed until she is at a healthier body weight. Additionally, she will need to
continue her medical treatments until her mange is completely cleared up and her
beautiful coat comes back.
A HEARTFELT thanks to the folks who donated for Princess's
medical care! We believe that we can meet her needs now with the donations
generously made on her behalf. However, donations are urgently needed to enable
us to cover the extraneous vet expenses of treating very adoptable Mastiffs like
Princess who come to us with medical problems that often require significantly
more than their 350 dollar adoption fee to care for.
If you would like to enable
us to continue helping dogs who are sick, heartworm positive, and suffering from
extreme neglect like Princess, you can donate by paypal or mail at the link
below- and indicate that you want your donation to be used for our special needs
Mastiffs fund.
UPDATE ON PRINCESS W/ NEW PHOTOS
January 23, 2006
Thanks to her mastiff angel donors, she is
almost over the critical stage of demodex! She has limited numbers of the mite
left on her body, and most of those are dying. She feels sooo much better and is
gaining weight- she now weighs 108lbs.
The vet did find that she has large amounts
of yeast and coxcidia on her skin, so he has continued her on her Ivermectin and
cephalexin. He has actually put her on a medicated bath to help with these
issues.
She will go in for another check up around the 8th of February. Until then she
continues to gain weight, and actually has enough energy to play with the other
dogs in the yard. We visited the dog park for the first time, and she had a
blast. We only stayed for about 10 minutes, as she seemed to get tired very
quickly. She loved all the other dogs, but was not sure about the little ones.
When ever they barked at her, she would run away.

SECOND Photo UPDATE ON PRINCESS, FEB 14, 2006

THANK
YOU FOR HELPING PRINCESS!!
PRINCESS IS SO MUCH BETTER!! She looks and feels great now. She is going
to be going to her new home soon, thanks to those caring souls who sent
donations for her. The cruel neglect and suffering she endured was almost
unthinkable- and now she is happy and healthy! Princess is what Mastiff
Rescue is all about. A big thanks to the SSMR rescue volunteers who helped
this girl, and to everyone who kindly donated money for her vet bills and
aftercare.

An update on Princess from her new adoptive family!
September, '06....
Princess came into our lives quite by chance. We originally started out
adopting Caesar but he just couldn't get used to our 5 year old. Out of the
kindness of her heart Lonna Harrison said she would come get Caesar. During
our conversation I asked Lonna about Princess. Lonna told me there was a
lady flying in from Washington who was probably going to adopt Princess.
After the lady came to visit she changed her mind about adopting Princess.
Mind you this lady had donated a considerable amount of money to Princess'
recovery before even seeing Princess out of the kindness of her heart. I
would like to personally thank her for being a kind, compassionate person.
Lonna then contacted me back saying Princess was available. I asked Lonna
if she would bring Princess with her from Virginia to Ohio when she made her
trip to retrieve Caesar. She agreed.
The
minute we laid eyes on Princess we were attached hook, line and sinker. She
was still on medicine at the time and needed to put on some weight but we
had never seen a sadder, sweeter face in our lives. She seemed to be just
as hooked on us too. Over the next few weeks we continued Princess'
medication and baths with special shampoo and conditioner. She now has all
her hair back and has put on about 30 pounds. The whole situation was just
something I knew was meant to be.
Our
other Mastiff (Chrissy) and Princess are now inseparable. We adopted
Chrissy 3 years ago through MCOA. Since we've had Princess she has become a
very vocal dog. She definitely lets you know when she wants or doesn't like
something. We laugh hysterically when she get hers rear end against the
couches to scratch an itch because she makes funny faces and moans and
groans. She has also been dubbed "Trouble" because she can be so ornery.
She will steal things and put them in other rooms so we can play hide and
seek. There is nothing better than when she decides she needs a drink and
then comes to share by laying her face on yours LOL.
It also
didn't take her long to figure out how to get in our bed, which is a king,
sized captain with 6 drawers under each side. Up go the front feet and then
we walk up the steps with the back feet. She has been an absolutely awesome
addition to our family. There is nothing in the world better than being
owned by 2 Mastiffs........Oh wait yes there is. We are adopting #3 a week
from Saturday! We are just as excited about our new "baby" as we were when
adopting the other 2. This time we are adopting a boy named DeWalt straight
from his owner. He is a beautiful brindle boy.
I would
like to thank all the wonderful people who make these adoptions possible.
It is hard to find people who do things just because they are right when the
only pay is the love and kisses received from our pooches. It takes a big
heart to be a part of an organization like this.
